East Marion is where the fork narrows to almost nothing. For much of its length the land between Long Island Sound and Orient Harbor is a few hundred yards wide, so a great many houses here have water within sight in both directions and the beach communities on the Sound side are among the most sought-after on the fork.

Marion Lake sits at the centre of the hamlet, and the causeway east to Orient is the stretch of road everyone photographs. Children attend the small Oysterponds district, which it shares with Orient. It is quiet, it is genuinely scenic, and it is ten minutes from Greenport when you want a restaurant.
